Published by Communications on

Leytonstone Islamic Association hosted an Open Day on Sunday 18th February 2018 at the Leytonstone Mosque (Dacre Rd, Leytonstone, E11 3AG) as part of the Muslim Council of Britain’s national #VisitMyMosque Initiative. The aim of the open day was to give members of the local community an engaging insight into the life of the mosque and to promote greater understanding of Islam.

The Open Day was deemed a success, with over 100 visitors. Post-event feedback showed that prior to the Open Day, 88% of respondents had never been to Leytonstone Mosque, and that 44% had never stepped inside any Mosque before. A 97% Overall event satisfaction rate was also found.

“Really informative, the tour guide with me taught me more than all my teachers in school combined”

Visitors were offered guided tours of the mosque, options to watch live prayers and were able to have questions answered by the Mosque’s Imams and volunteers. One visitor commented about the event, “Really informative, the tour guide with me taught me more than all my teachers in school combined”. Visitors were also able to take part in the Jesus Exhibition by iERA, which looked at Jesus (who is also a Prophet in Islam) from an Islamic Perspective. The Exhibition also featured a Quran Booth, which allowed visitors to be able to listen to verses from the Holy Quran (the holy book for Muslims).

Visitors praised the welcoming atmosphere inside the Mosque and spoke highly of volunteers, who worked tremendously hard to deliver the open day for the local community. However, it wasn’t just members of the local community who attended. One gentleman travelled all the way from Loughton (a 6-mile journey which involved him taking two buses) to visit the Leytonstone Mosque Open Day.

A special thanks to the team at St. Johns Church in Leytonstone who attended, in addition to allowing us to place a banner on the railings outside their church, informing the Church Lane and High Road public of the open day.

Asif Adam (Event Organiser) mentioned “The Open Day has been an outstanding success. A huge thank you to all our visitors for attending and we hope you’ve all enjoyed the day”.

Following the success of this Open Day, Leytonstone Islamic Association intend to hold another Open Day in September 2018, the details of which will be circulated closer to time.
